What types of senior care are available in Albuquerque?
Six kinds of care cover most situations: assisted living, secured memory care units inside assisted living, nursing homes (22 CMS-certified in the metro), in-home care and home health, adult day and respite, and hospice.
The right one depends on medical needs, safety, money and where family lives.
How do you know which type of care someone needs?
Start from daily needs: help with bathing, dressing or medications points to assisted living or in-home care; dementia with wandering points to a secured memory care unit; continuous nursing points to a nursing home; and a terminal illness with comfort goals points to hospice.
The ADRC (1-800-432-2080) offers free options counseling.
Which type of care is most common around Albuquerque?
Small licensed assisted living homes, many of them converted houses in the Northeast Heights, Rio Rancho and Valencia County, make up a large share of the metro's assisted living licenses, while larger communities hold most of the beds.
Non-medical home care is larger still, but it is not in any public bulk dataset, so only Medicare-certified home health agencies are listed.
Which care types can be combined in the Albuquerque area?
Most can: home health visits and hospice come into assisted living and private homes, adult day pairs with in-home care, and a short nursing home rehab stay often bridges a hospital discharge and a move to assisted living.
