Can hospice care be delivered in a New Mexico assisted living facility?

Yes. New Mexico's rule lets an assisted living facility admit or keep a resident who has elected the hospice benefit even when that resident would otherwise need continuous nursing care, provided the facility coordinates care with the hospice on the resident's individual service plan and trains its staff in palliative care.

Residents must be given a list of hospice providers and the right to choose one; if the facility recommends a hospice it has an ownership interest in, it must say so. Medicare's hospice benefit pays the hospice team, related drugs and equipment, not room and board.
